Sizzling Heads 2012 Gold Edition Plate Field

Kelso Wood’s Group 1-winning colt Sizzling heads the final field for the 2012 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) which will take place at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Sizzling heads the Gold Edition Plate field

The talented three-year-old will be having his first start in Queensland since an outstanding unbeaten winter campaign that was highlighted by victory in the Group 1 TJ Smith (1600m).

Wood took Sizzling to the Melbourne Spring Carnival and while he was unable to taste the same success he has at home he produced respectable performances when fourth in the Blue Sapphire and sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The son of Snitzel could potentially head to the Magic Millions Guineas in January and he has drawn ideally this weekend in barrier five from where he will be ridden by top Queensland hoop Chris Munce.

There are plenty of in-form horses in the field including the Patinack-owned Reflectance who has won three of six starts and finished in the top two in fourth starts this preparation.

Both Lucky Hussler and The Conspirator will be out to continue their good form and both are chasing a third consecutive victory.

Lucky Hussler disposed of his rivals by 5 ½ lengths at Doomben first-up early last month and backed it up with a 1 ½ length win over Sookie in the Mount Franklin Handicap at Eagle Farm on November 17.

The Conspirator hasn’t been quite as dominant but has still been impressive and made plenty take notice last start when beating Qfighter by two 1 ½ lengths to claim the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap on December 1.

Qfighter has been a picture of consistency this preparation with a first-up win followed by two runner-up finishes but he faces a tough ask to return to the winner’s circle this weekend after drawing barrier 15.

Other horses in the field include last-start winners Saluter and Mishani Persuader and the Bryan Guy-trained Platinum State who will be running first-up.

The best of this weekend’s racing takes place at Eagle Farm and will have outstanding odds on all the action.
