Just Five in 2012 Lee-Steere Classic Field

Just five horses will line up in Saturday’s Group 3 2012 Lee Steere Classic (1400m) which will take place at Ascot Racecourse in Perth.

Despite the small turn out, the $125,000 three-year-old event still features some quality runners including the Lindsey Smith-trained Fuddle Dee Duddle.

The Red Ransom filly won the Group 3 Champion Stakes in November before running fourth in the WA Guineas and will appreciate the step back to her own age group after running a respectable fifth in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic on the weekend.

Lightly raced and out to record her third victory from as many career starts is Simon Miller-trained filly Miss Bux.

The daughter of General Nediym won convincingly on debut at Bunbury in November before backing that up with a one-length victory in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes on December 1.

Another from the Simon Miller stable lining up on Saturday is Hard Ball Get who was second behind his stablemate in the Placid Ark Stakes.

It was his first start as a three-year-old after winning both starts of his juvenile career when debuting in July.

Also bringing strong form into the race is Passion Cantata who is chasing a third consecutive victory after scoring back-to-back wins at Ascot recently.

The Oratorio filly is experiencing career best form and boasts a promising record of five wins from 12 starts.

The final runner in the field is Miss Solis who has won five of 11 starts but will have to bounce back from a disappointing last-start 11th in the Champion Stakes.

Prior to that she had recorded reasonable results this preparation with a first-up third followed by a win in the Listed Belgravia Stakes and a fifth in the Queen Stakes.
