Sizzling Tops 2012 Gold Edition Plate Nominations

Kelso Wood’s exciting colt Sizzling is set to make his Queensland return in Saturday’s Listed $100,000 2012 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm where he is likely to start a strong favourite.

Sizzling

Sizzling heads nominations for Saturday's Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm

The son of Snitzel starred as a two-year-old at the Queensland winter carnival and hardly disgraced himself in two starts against the top three-year-old sprinters in the land at the recent Melbourne spring carnival.

He returns to the track he excelled at in June with highlight victories occurring in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and the Group 1 TJ Smith.

His winter form gave Wood the confidence to test him during Australia’s premier racing period where he bolted home to finish within a half-length of Snitzerland when fourth in the $250,000 Blue Sapphire and sixth to Nechita in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

One of the top likely challengers to Sizzling on Saturday is the Patinack-owned Reflectance who boasts an impressive early career resume of three wins and two minor placings from six starts.

The John Thompson-trained colt was particularly impressive during a Brisbane spring campaign where he chalked up two wins and two narrow runner-up finishes from four outings.

Exceed and Excel filly Sunset Affair showed she was up to stakes level as a two-year-old when finishing second to the well-regarded Hoss Amor and is coming off a strong win in a Class 3 Handicap at Doomben last month.

Also bringing good form into the race is Matthew Dunn-trained colt Qfighter who won first-up at the Gold Coast in October and has since produced two runner-up performances at Doomben and Eagle Farm.

Qfighter is likely to get the chance to exact revenge on The Conspirator who defeated him at his last start and is chasing a third consecutive victory.

Other nominated horses include the out-of-form but talented Snipzu and Kelly Schweida’s consistent filly Discreet.
