2012 Kingston Town Classic Form Guide & Betting Preview

The last of the Group 1 Perth Summer Racing Carnival features runs at WA’s Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, an exclusive Kingston Town Classic 2012 form guide and betting preview for which is detailed below.

Playing God

Playing God is undefeated over the Kingston Town Classic track & distance

Set to run as Ascot Race 8 at 5:15pm (local time), the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) has this year drawn a full field of 16 hopefuls, the Darren McAuliffe-trained Rebelson lying in wait as the race’s sole emergency.

Kingston Town Classic odds at bookmaker.com.au feature a firm favourite in the Gino Poletti-trained Luckygray who is at $2.50 to atone for their last start second as the beaten favourite in the Railway Stakes.

Luckygray was the 58kg topweight in the Railway and was drawn in double digits with barrier 10.

On Saturday they carry 59kg but meet their rivals under the weight-for-age conditions and will find themselves in a nice position from barrier four.

The only other single-figure fancy in the Kingston Town Classic betting markets this year is then Neville Parnahm’s Blackfriars five-year-old Playing God ($6) who has won the past two editions of the Kingston Town.

So are the top two in betting the best to have your money on this weekend?

Or is their value backing an upset Kingston Town Classic result with a longer-priced hopeful such as last start Railway Stakes winner Mr Moet ($12) in gate one or Glen Boss’ mount Fuddle Dee Duddle ($14)?

Having gone over the full Kingston Town Classic field and form guide below are the must know facts and betting stats on the race to help you back the winner online at bookmaker.com.au!

2012 Kingston Town Classic Facts & Form Stats

  • Last year’s Kingston Town Classic winner was the successfully defending champ Playing God who come off a distant 14th in the Railway Stakes, jumped from barrier 5 (of 13) and was ridden by Steven Parnham
  • Playing God also won the 2010 Kingston Town Classic as a three-year-old; this year there are two three-year-olds accepted with #16 Fuddle Dee Duddle ($14) and the first emergency #17e Rebelson ($17) looking to become just the sixth 3YO in the past 25 years to win
  • #3 Playing God ($6) is back this year looking to become the first horse in history to win three Kingston Town Classics; before them the other most recent dual Kingston Town Classic winner was Niconero (2008 and 2006) while Old Comrade was the most recent to go back-to-back in 2000-01
  • Playing God will be ridden by Steven Parnham again and this year jump from barrier 7
  • Trainer Neville Parham will be seeking successive wins in the race with Playing God and their lesser fancied stablemate #4 Gold Has Spoken ($21)
  • Last year’s winning gate (5) meanwhile belongs to #7 Ranger ($10) who will be looking to go one better than their second to Playing God in the Kingston Town 12 months ago
  • There are three last-start winners in the mix this year meanwhile with #5 Mr Moet (Group 1 Kingston Town Classic, 1600m, Ascot, 24/11/2012), #9 Chester Road (Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes, 1400m, Ascot, 24/11/2012) and #15 Pop Culture (Listed Ascot Gold Cup, 1800m, Ascot, 10/11/2012)
  • The favourite #2 Luckygray ($2.50) boasts the highest Win Rate of the field with 64.71% followed by #5 Mr Moet (45.83%) and #17e Rebelson (44.44%)
  • #15 Pop Culture ($19) meanwhile has the best Place Percentage with an impressive 78.57% followed by #2 Luckygray (76.47%), #9 Chester Road (73.68%) and #5 Mr Moet (70.83%)
  • No filly in history has won the Kingston Town Classic but this year #16 Fuddle Dee Duddle will look to break the drought
  • Mares also have a dismal record in the Kingston Town Classic with just three winning over the past 30 years meaning history is against #14 Rosie Rocket ($10) and #15 Pop Culture on Saturday
  • Horses with the best record at the track are #2 Luckygray (11-7-2-0), #3 Playing God (13-6-3-1), #5 Mr Moet (8-5-1-1), #13 Maschino (11-4-1-2) and #15 Pop Culture (7-4-2-0)

  • Six-year-olds have won four of the past 11 Kingston Towns; there are five in this age group looking to be the next on Saturday with #4 God Has Spoken, #7 Ranger, #8 Shamrdashing, #11 Zester and #14 Rosie Rocket
  • Combining the above two age & sex facts the horses statistically to back this year being six-year-old geldings are then #7 Ranger ($10), #8 Shamardashing (”$61″) and get in on the action at the only Aussie bookie offering punters that chance to Pick this weekend!
