George Moore Stakes 2012 Field & Barrier Draw Announced

A smart field of sprinters has been accepted to contest the 2012 George Moore Stakes at Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday, the race the first major of the Brisbane Summer Series.

Phelan Ready

Former gun juvenile Phelan Ready is out to break a three and a half year losing streak in the George Moore Stakes 2012

Scheduled to jump at 4:20pm (AEST) as Eagle Farm Race 7, the $200,000 Group 3 Zig Zag Foundation George Moore Stakes (1200m) has this year drawn a final field of 13 hopefuls.

Heading the George Moore Stakes field and weights is the Jason McLachlan-trained Phelan Ready.

Drawn nicely in gate four but with the 59kg top-weight to overcome, the More Than Ready six-year-old has not won a race since they took out the world’s richest race for juveniles – the Golden Slipper – as a two-year-old back in April of 2009.

They did however catch the eye first-up on November 24 at this track and distance when they ran a close second to Steel Zip carrying 59kg in the Listed Keith Noud Handicap.

The horses that ran three-four in the Keith Noud have also both been accepted for Saturday’s George Moore Stakes with Audacious Spirit and Easy Running due to jump from barriers six and two respectively.

The Gillian Heinrich-trained Gold Coast raider Audacious Spirit won over the 1200m at Eagle Farm two back before their last start third while Desleigh Forster’s Easy Rocking gelding Easy Running shoots for their first win since the Mick Dittman Plate back in April.

There are three last-start winners in the George Moore Stakes mix this year meanwhile, most notably Forster’s other runner Adebisi.

Drawn wide on Saturday with barrier 10 to overcome as the equal 58.5kg second top-weight the Shovhog five-year-old resumed on November 10 and relished the Heavy (8) Eagle Farm track on the day to win over 1000m by an easy three lengths.

Ten-year-old Tamworth veteran Ollie Vollie who beat home Shadows Of The Sun at Rosehill on Voemver 17 and Roma galloper Emmertt coming off a victory at their home track are the other horses shooting for back-to-back wins on Saturday.

The complete 2012 George Moore Stakes field, barriers, jockeys and weights are detailed in the table below.
