Alcopop is said to be in tip top shape ahead of his run in the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin Racecourse this Sunday December 9, 2012.
The eight-year-old goes into the race with a stellar spring carnival to his name, with his most recent result being a win in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on November 3.
Alcopop will once again take on the 2,000 metre distance when he runs in the 2012 Hong Kong Cup this Sunday.
Trainer Jake Stephens feels the team made the right move by bringing Alcopop over to Hong Kong earlier than many of the other runners.
“It’s been good having arrived early,” Stephens said.
“It’s been good to have that extra week.
“He’s acclimatized well and looks good going right so fingers crossed he’s going to put in a good showing on the day.”
Stephens admitted that Sha Tin Racecourse is one of the best racecourse’s in the world.
“It’s impressive; they run a good tight ship,” he said.
“It’s going to probably suit our horse the surface.
“he like that fast surface, he’s got that turn of foot.
“He’s run a couple of sub 11 second furlongs.”
While the trainer understands what he’s up against, he’s asking the Australian public not to discount Alcopop as he faces his biggest career test.
“Obviously it’s a bloody tough race,” Stephens said.
“He’s not without a chance I don’t think, it’s tough.
“He’s looking good.”
Alcopop has won 10 of his 33 race starts and has earned more than $1.68 million in prize money.
