2012 Festival Stakes Field & Barriers Released

A capacity field of gallopers has been accepted for the Festival Stakes 2012 at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, the handicap feature the latest black type race of the Sydney Summer Racing Carnival.

Praecido has been scratched from the 2012 Festival Stakes field after drawing the outside barrier (20)

Due to jump as Rosehill Race 6 at 4:30pm (AEST) the $100,000 Blackwoods Stanley Dewalt Festival Stakes (1500m) this year drew a field of 17 starters plus three emergencies.

The early scratching of #17 Praecido however, who drew the extreme outside barrier 20, has paved the way for the John O’Shea-trained first emergency Gangster’s Choice to gain a start.

To wear the No. 1 saddlecloth as the 59kg top-weight of the Festival Stakes field is the Ron Quinton-trained Monton in gate eight with apprentice hoop Sam Clipperton to ride.

The Catbird six-year-old was last seen carrying just 53kg to finish sixth behind Fat All in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and on Saturday Monton will be looking to win their first race since last year’s Group 2 Villiers Stakes over the mile 12 months ago.

Following Monton in the Festival Stakes field and weights are then Chris Waller’s former Group 1 winner Triple Elegance (58.5kg) who has suffered an early blow drawing gate 18 and two last-start winners on 56kg with Cabernet and Darci Be Good.

Cabernet has come up trumps in the Festival Stakes barrier draw due to jump from four with Brenton Avdualla in the saddle as Matthew Smith’s six-year-old Al Maher mare seeks back-to-back stakes wins following her success in a Listed event over the same distance at Sandown on November 17.

Darci Be Good is another galloper that has drawn a horror barrier with 17, Bede Murray’s talented four-year-old coming off a good win in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) a month ago.

The horses that finished two-three-four behind Darci Be Good in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup top four were also all been accepted for the Festival Stakes showdown this weekend with the John Thompson-trained Isopach (barrier 12), the David Payne-trained Praecido (now scratched) and Malavio who will be ridden by Nathan Berry.

Other horses to come up with outside gates in the Festival Stakes barrier draw meanwhile include one of Waller’s two other runners Tromso (barrier 16) coming off a close second at the track over 1400m, the Peter Snowden-trained Quidnunc (barrier 15), and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Charing Cross (barrier 13).

Snowden meanwhile will also be represented in the race this year by the in-form Classics in gate five and Galah who has also drawn well with barrier three.

Commands mare Classics will be after their third win on the trot, her two recent November wins being over 1350m and 1400m respectively at Rosehill, while Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Galah comes off a good second over the Flemington mile back on Emirates Stakes Day.
