Shout Out Loud to Target Villiers Stakes 2012

Victoria’s leading trainer Peter Moody is preparing a summer raid on Sydney with his seven-year-old galloper Shout Out Loud who earned a 2012 Villiers Stakes target with a good win at Caulfield on the weekend.

Shout Out Loud will target either Sydney's Villiers Stakes or the Tasmanian Summer Carnival riches

Moody is the fourth horseman to be in charge of the Ne Coupez Pas gelding’s preparation, the horse having been transferred from Kerry Petrick, under who they won the 2010 Darwin Cup, to Moody in Melbourne last year.

After bucking at the start and failing to finish their first ever run for Moody in last year’s Christmas Stakes on Boxing Day, Shout Out Loud continued to improve including their good second to Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed in the listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) on Australia Day back in January.

Resuming on November 17 at Sandown with a sixth to stablemate Mid Summer Music in the Listed Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m), Shout Out Loud finally broke their maiden status for Moody on Saturday when defeating Danzylum by three quarters of a length in the $100,000 Victoria Cup (1440m) at Caulfield for apprentice hoop Jake Duffy’s first ever city win and the injury-prone galloper’s fourth second-up victory from six attempts.

“He was always a good horse and he won the (Darwin) Cup two years ago, but then went amiss,” the owner’s spokesman John Maclean said on Saturday.

“So about a year ago we sent him down to Peter Moody – you give the best to the best.

“He’s now won almost $400,000 and hopefully he can keep going ahead.”

There is a chance the veteran will next run in the $175,000 Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on December 22, or if not they will be saved for the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

“There looks a good race for him there in a couple of weeks and the prize money is really good,” Moody’s stable spokesman Jeff O’Connor said of the Tasmanian races.

One of the premier Sydney Summer Racing Carnival features, the Villiers Stakes 2012 is also a prime betting race for the punters.
