Jester’s Girl Claims Surprise 2012 Travel Associates Classic Victory

Jester’s Girl claimed a surprise win in the 2012 Listed Travel Associates Classic last Saturday.

The roughie won the $80,000 race by a nose ahead of Bound To Blush, who finished second, and Funtantes, who crossed the line in third.

It was the first win for Jester’s Girl since September last year and only the second of her short career.

And she did it all while being in foal.

Jester’s Girl is currently in foal to Magic Albert, however, her owners were attempting to claim an unlikely Black Type victory before she is officially retired.

Eagle Farm trainer, Brad Herne, saddled up Jester’s Girl for usual trainer Gerald Ryan.

”(Ryan) told me that she was flying in track work and her first-up form was really good,” Herne said.

”The goal today was to get some black type against her name because she’s in foal to Magic Albert and that will make her worth a lot more now.”

Jester’s Girl was paying long odds of $41 to win the 2012 Travel Associates Classic at bookmaker.com.au.

While Jetster’s Girl took out the win, jockey Damian Browne believes it would have been a very different story had Funtantes jumped with the rest of them.

”She just dwelt when the gates opened and I had to use her up a bit more than I wanted mid-race to get into a reasonable position,” Browne said.

”The last 50 metres of the race just told on her because of the work she had to do early.”

Funtantes

A bad start may have cost Funtantes (pictured) the 2012 Travel Associates Classic, which was won by Jester's Girl.

Funtantes finished just a head behind the winner in third despite her unfortunate start.
