The Doomben Cup 2018 takes centre stage in...
Kingston Town Classic-bound filly Fuddle Dee Duddel has been scratched from the Placid Arc Stakes 2012 at Ascot this Saturday with markets on the three-year-olds’ feature now led by Hard Ball Get.
The sole stakes race running in WA for the Perth Summer Racing Carnival this weekend, the $80,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) is due to run as Ascot Race 6 at 4:20pm (local time) and the field is now down to just eight hopefuls following two early withdrawals.
The most notable absentee is the Lindsey Smith-trained Champion Stakes winner Fuddle Dee Duddle who ran an eye-catching fourth behind Academus in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) last Saturday.
Originally set to back up in the Placid Ark Stakes before continuing onto the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) Saturday week, Fuddle Dee Duddle will now bypass this weekend’s race after undergoing a veterinary examination on Thursday.
The other early scratching from the Placid Ark Stakes field this year was then the Lou & Dion Luciani-trained Hussars, the Husson Lightning gelding having had three good runs this time in.
Following the scratchings the latest Placid Ark Stakes odds are now led by the undefeated Simon Miller-trained Hard Ball Get.
The dashing grey Aussie Rules gelding hasn’t raced since July when they won their opening two career starts at Blemont Park over 1200m and 1300m respectively.
With an unbeaten record and untapped potential, on display with their blistering six length barrier trial win over 950m at Lark Hill on November 19, Hard Ball Get is the horse to beat on Saturday according to bookmaker.com.au who has them installed at $2.40.
The close second favourite in the Placid Ark Stakes betting markets is then Hard Ball Get’s stablemate, the fellow Miller-trained Miss Bux; Miller looking to continue his good run this season after preparing last Saturday’s Winterbottom Stakes runner-up Power Princess.
A daughter of General Nediym, Miss Bux earned a shot at the Placid Ark when she scored a nice one and a half length win on debut at Bunbry a fortnight ago.
The two other single-figure fancies in the Placid Ark this year are then George Daly’s Shamardal gelding Detection ($4.80) coming off back-to-back wins at the track, and Dueton ($8.50) who was last seen running a good first-up second in the Crown Perth 3YO Handicap on November 17.
