A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
Ross Stitt’s veteran Taree galloper Youthful Jack will kick start a summer campaign in Sydney this Saturday as they prepare to head down to the Apple Isle for the 2013 Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival riches.
The Youthful Legs seven-year-old spent last summer in Tassie with local horseman Adam Trinder who prepared them for a successful three win raid with Youthful Jack winning the Listed Thetote.Com.Au Stakes (1200m), the Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m) and the George Adams Plate (1600m) back in February.
Having failed to win a race since Stitt plans to send Youthful Jack to Trinder again at the end of this year to target the same three features he enjoyed a triple win in at the start of 2012.
“It (Tasmania) suits horses like him who aren’t quite up to Sydney standard now and he gets into those races carrying the same weights he did earlier in the year,” Stitt, who also owns a part-share in the horse, said.
“He (Trinder) did a great job with him this year so I can’t see why he won’t do the same again.”
Youthful Jack will have a couple of runs in Sydney first however starting with the $85,000 Sharp Flying Handicap (1200m) at Warwick Farm, with regular jockey Robert Thompson set to ride, this Saturday which will be their first run since a game fourth to Pepperwood in the Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) back in August.
They enjoyed a successful barrier trial over 1007m at their home track, Taree, on November 19 winning by four and a half lengths showing they were ready to get back to the business of racing.
Stitt also hopes they will get back to the business of winning too with Youthful Jack boasting the bad habit of leaving it a long time between drinks.
Before their three win streak in Tasmania at the start of the year Youthful Jack won a 1350m Welter Cup at Wyong on December last year which was their first turf triumph in over 12 months.
Youthful Jack does boast multiple stakes victories over their 52-start career to date however the most notable of which was the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes at Randwick in February of 2009 when they were prepared by Allan Denham.
Following Saturday’s first-up run at the Farm Youthful Jack will then back up in the $100,000 Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) back at Warwick Farm on December 22.
