2012 ATC Frank Underwood Cup Field & Barriers Released

This Saturday Sydney’s Warwick Farm Racecourse will host the latest summer stakes race with the ATC Cup, formerly known as the Frank Underwood Cup 2012, due to run.

Cantonese

Cantonese will not run in Saturday's Frank Underwood Cup 2012

Scheduled as Warwick Farm Race 4 at 3:00pm (AEST) the $100,000 ATC Cup (2200m) has this year drawn a final field of just eight hopefuls.

The most notable defector that was not accepted for was the Bjorn Baker-trained Cantonese who was originally set to back up just seven days after their smart win over 2000m at Rosehill last Saturday.

While Cantonese is not in the Frank Underwood Cup final field the horse that they beat home last start, Moriarty, will back up on Saturday.

The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old is looking to return to the form that saw them win their opening three spring runs at Randwick before their two last start seconds on successive Saturdays at Rosehill.

Drawn in gate four with Corey Brown to ride, Brown aboard for two of their spring wins this season, Moriarty is sure to start one of the top fancies in the Frank Underwood Cup betting markets.

Moriarty is allocated 57kg in the handicap clash, equal with the rails-drawn Scouting Wide, while the Hawkes-trained veteran Fiumicino the 59kg top-weight.

Zabeel nine-year-old Fiumicino showed they still had some big runs in their old legs when they finished third to runaway winner Puissance De Lune, albeit beaten eight lengths, in the Bendigo Cup (2400m) on October 31.

There are two last-start winners in the mix meanwhile with progressive O’Reilly four-year-old Ward in gate two with James McDonald to ride as they seek back-to-back wins after their success at Hawkesbury on November 14, and the Robert Price-trained Watertight, another last-start winner having won over 2100m at Gosford, who are both on the 54kg minimum.

The Frank Underwood Cup field is then rounded out by the John Sargent-trained Savabeel mare Fromelles, David Pfieffer’s Encosta De Lago mare Dreamworker, King Utah and Watertight.
