Rebelson with the Form for 2012 WA Guineas Upset

They are after their third straight win but are still at double figures for the WA Guineas 2012 in Perth this weekend, a generous price on exciting local youngster Rebelson according to their Ascot-based trainer Darren McAuliffe.

One of a capacity field of three-year-olds set to face off in this Saturday’s edition of the $350,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m), Snippetson gelding Rebelson will have their ninth career start in the classic seeking their fifth turf triumph.

Having already amassed over $139,000 in prize money the up-and-comer enjoyed a win over the mile against their own kind at Belmont Park two back carrying 57.5kg before relishing the drop back to 54kg and 1400m on November 10 at Ascot when they scored an impressive one and three quarter length win over a field full of Guineas hopes in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m).

The Fairetha Stakes has produced the past two WA Guineas winners with King Saul finishing fourth in the lead-up 12 months ago and subsequent dual Group 1 winner Playing God running second in the race before their Guineas triumph in 2010.

Coming off the right form them, Rebelson is also one of only four in the field with previous winning form over the mile (2-1-0-0) and they boast the equal best Win Rate of the field (50%) along with $34 outsider Virtual Trader.

But still they are at the juicy price of $12 in the latest WA Guineas betting markets which are led by smart filly Antique Belle ($3.50) and Luke’s Luck ($3.60).

Drawn ideally in gate four with their Fairetah Stakes winning jockey Jason Whiting, winner of the 2008 WA Guineas with Moccasin Bend, staying on there is certainly lots to like about Rebelson this weekend.

“They look to be a pretty even bunch in the race and I’m confident he’ll go well,” McAuliffe said.

“He’s a big, gangly horse and is still pretty immature, so we’ve taken our time with him.

“He’ll run a strong 1600 and should get further.”

McAuliffe will also be represented in the WA Guineas this year by $101 roughie El Rijes in gate six who he believes has improvement after their ninth in the Fairetha Stakes.

Whether you are sticking with one of the single-figure fancies or like the look of a better value contender like Rebelson in the WA Guineas 2012 you can bet on having the prices and markets you’re after.
