Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The form is there and the price is juicy for the Neville Parnham-trained Dominating in this year’s WA Guineas 2012, Parnham confident of improvement and a good showing from the son of Snitzel on Saturday.
Dominating is at a generous price of $21 in the latest markets for the $350,000 Group 3 Sky Racing W.A. Guineas(1600m) – due to run as Ascot Race 7 at 3:20pm (local time) – after they came up with an awkward barrier 13 draw.
A $60,000 purchase from the 2011 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sales, Dominating showed lots of promise early when winning their opening two career starts at Belmont Park back in June as a juvenile.
Their three-year-old debut at Ascot last month was disappointing however when they could only manage to finish 10th to Miss Solis in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m).
They dropped back to a meto maiden at the start of November however and showed improvement despite their 59kg when running third to The Rising and Wahkeena.
Dominating progressed well again last start when they crossed second to fellow WA Guineas hopeful Rebelson ($12) in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) on November 10 after over-racing in the early stages – a race that has produced the past two WA Guineas winners with King Saul (4th in 2011) and Playing God (2nd in 2010).
Now they face their first Group assignment on the weekend in the Guineas and Parnham believes they will bring some stiff competition to their better fancied rivals.
“He’ll go super and he’s been set specifically for this race,” Parnham said.
“We’ve taken measures to help him settle and he’s been really, really good since then (his last run).”
Parnham, who won the Guineas two years ago with his subsequent dual Kingston Town Classic champion Playing God, will also be represented in Saturday’s race by Bippo No Bungus who drew the horror barrier 17 (into 16 with the second emergency out).
The Dubawi filly was last seen finishing a brave second to Fuddle Dee Duddle – who is at $11 to win the win the Guineas – in the Group 3 Champion Stakes (1600m) against her own kind last weekend and is paying $31 in the WA Guineas odds.
