2012 Goulburn Cup Field & Barrier Draw

After the Railway Stakes Day action in Perth on Saturday punters will be treated to more black type racing in New South Wales on Sunday, November 25, with the Goulburn Cup 2012 set to run at the country course.

Scheduled to run as Goulburn Race 7 at 4:48pm (AEST) the $100,000 Listed Goulburn Cup (1600m) drew another capacity field of 16 starters plus four emergencies.

The first of those emergencies #17e Browden has gained a start following the early scratching of #11 Forarainyday and the Garry Frazer-trained Starcraft four-year-old certainly is an intriguing edition in the race.

A winner of four of their five starts to date the gelding is after their fifth on the trot after taking out the Crockwell Cup over the same track and distance on November 4 when carrying 58kg.

Sunday sees the exciting youngster drop right back to 49kg having with apprentice hoop David Pisani getting the weight relief and the draw (barrier 2).

“Browden is on the way up and drops a lot in weight from the 59.5 kilograms he carried last start to win at Goulburn,” Frazer said.

“He only won by a narrow margin, but it was a very good effort because he was held up and it wasn’t easy for him being a big-striding horse.

“He has been a bit of a headache to get going and should be unbeaten.

“You couldn’t count his first start and he has won every start since.”

There are four other last start winners assured of a Goulburn Cup star this year with the Gwenda Markwell-trained eight-year-old Bay Window coming off a 1500m victory at Rosehill from last Saturday, the Rob Price-trained Ramsays Curse who won over 1400m at the track at the start of the month, the Guy Walter-trained Brightest and All Legal.

All Legal is allocated the second top-weight of 58kg but will have just 50kg on their back with apprentice jockey Lester Grace booked for the ride making Kevin Moses’ Al Maher six-year-old a genuine chance in the classic especially after their second-up victory in the Listed Ladies Day Cup (1300m) at Hawkesbury on November 8.

Five-year-old Galileo mare Brightest, a second-up winner at Warwick Farm last time out, meanwhile is looking to hand trainer Guy Walter with his third successive win in the race following the success of Straight Albert 12 months ago and Willy Jimmy (2010).

Walter will also be hoping for another scratching before the race jumps on Sunday, having been moved from its previous Friday slot, to get second emergency Tiger Territory in the line-up.

Other notable hopefuls in the 2012 Goulburn Cup then include Gai Waterhouse’s 59kg top-weight and multiple stakes performer Kinnersley (barrier four) looking to improve on their first-up eighth to All Legal at Hawkesbury, the John Thompson-trained Isopach coming off an excellent second to Darci Be Good in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup over the mile, the resuming David Vandkye-trained Maximus Gladiator who won four from five last campaign, and Warwick Farm galloper Scream Machine.
