Travinator will not only be facing his first Group 1 test when he lines up for the 2012 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot this Saturday, but also a trial set by trainer Daniel Pearce.
Pearce will be looking for confirmation from the four-year-old that he is ready to travel east for a Sydney or Melbourne autumn campaign in 2013.
Like a number of Western starts before him, such as Hay List, Travinator will attempt to cement his claim to fame by contesting some of the top autumn features.
Travinator has won seven of his nine race starts and has earned close to $200,000 in prize money during his short career.
While Pearce is hopeful Travinator can put an end to Barakey’s winning streak in the 2012 Winterbottom Stakes, and prove he is up to the task of travelling interstate.
“It will give both me and Jim a good gauge on where the horses are at, looking forward towards a possible trip east,” Pearce said.
“We will know where we stand.
“Dan Morton did it with Scenic Blast, Miss Andretti went over and Hay List.
“We’ve had some nice sprinters come out of here who have gone on.”
Travinator will be stepping up to 1,200 metres for the first time this preparation, after winning all four of his previous runs over 1,000 metres this campaign.
“And the way he has won his past few, I don’t think another 200 metres will be a problem,” Pearce said.
