Jungle Mist Classic 2012 Final Field – Railway Stakes Day

Perth’s richest race meeting, Railway Stakes Day, is set to run at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday and one of the early features on the program will be the 2012 Jungle Mist Classic for the fillies and mares.

This year’s $80,000 Listed Carlton Dry Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) has drawn a final field of 15 hopefuls and is due to run as Ascot Race 6 at 2:40pm.

Among the final acceptors for the sprint clash is defending Jungle Mist Classic winner Answers Are, the Fred Kersley-trained Xaar six-year-old suffering an early blow drawing the extreme outside barrier.

Answers Are won the Jungle Mist second-up 12 months ago and on Saturday she will attempt to do the same after resuming with a credible sixth at the track and distance on November 10.

Jungle Mist Classic weights this year are led by the Adam Durrant-trained Mabel Grace, coming off a credible sixth to Saturday’s Railway Stakes favourite Luckygray in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes, who will carry a hefty 60.5kg from her nice barrier two draw with Peter Hall booked for the ride.

She is followed in the weights by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sydney raider Upon This Rock (59.5kg) coming off a first-up fourth at Hawkesbury with Nash Rawiller to ride from gate 12, and veteran seven-year-old Bites The Dust (58.5kg) who are the only other runners on more than the 54kg minimum.

One of the best chances in the field meanwhile looks to be the ultra-consistent Peggie’s Dream, Bruce Watkins & Gary Hitchcock’s lightly-raced five-year-old stepping up to stakes company for the first time at career start number seven.

The daughter Ihtiram has won five of her six starts to date, finishing third in the other, and was last seen carrying 59kg to victory over 1100m at the track on November 10.

In the Jungle Mist Peggie’s Dream’s regular rider William Pike, engaged to ride rival mare Morning Mist, will be replaced by one of Australia’s best hoops in Glen Boss.

Other notable hopes include the Neville Parnham-trained four-year-old Almachino who hasn’t raced since their Winter Championship failure back in June, last-start Broome winner Double Swirl and Lindsey Smith’s Blackfriars five-year-old Miss Vinnoire who has run top three in her past three runs.
