Set to run as Eagle Farm Race 7 at 4:20pm (AEST), the $100,000 Listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m) has this year drawn a final field of 11 hopefuls, more than half of which are resuming off a spell.

Of those five horses not first-up only one is coming off a last-start victory with the Gillian Heinrich-trained Audacious Spirit.

Drawn mid-field in gate five the Bel Esprit gelding enjoyed a tidy win over the track and distance on November 3 after a four month break, the five-year-old after their debut stakes success.

Other horses coming off some good recent runs include Desleigh Forster’s local four-year-old Easy Running and the Barry Baldwin-trained Havatryst who are drawn in barriers two and one respectively.

Brisbane’s premier trainer Robert Heathcote meanwhile will be dually represented in the race this year with his stakes winner Excellantes (barrier nine) who comes off a great third in a black type at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, and veteran seven-year-old Gundy Son (barrier three) who races for the first time since June.

Of the other resuming gallopers the most notable are reigning Keith Noud Handicap winner Listen Son in the far outside barrier who was last seen running third to Firebolt in the Tatt’s RC Mile back on June 23, and the Norm Hilton-trained Carry Me Bluey.

Toowoomba galloper Carry Me Bluey enjoyed an excellent winter campaign earlier this year winning the South Graft Cup before their third in the Tattersall’s Mile in July.

Saturday sees them kick-start a Brisbane Summer Series campaign and Hilton is confident that they can be competitive first-up despite their wide barrier 10 draw.

“I think he’s forward enough to be a good chance,” Hilton said.

“He trialled well last week so he’s on target.

“It (barrier 10) won’t be a big deal. He drops back a bit and it’s probably better than drawing one or two.”

Hilton named the $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 8 and the $200,000 Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) back at the track on December 29, which Carry Me Bluey ran a close fourth in last year, as their main targets this time in.

“He’s really developed and filled out,” Hilton said.

“He’s a lot stronger this time in than in the past.”
