2013 Stradbroke Handicap Target for Wild And Proud

New trainer David Pfieffer is aiming high with recent stable acquisition Wild And Proud who he will prepare for a Stradbroke Handicap 2013 bid during next year’s Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Warwick Farm-based Pfieffer has taken over the preparation of Snowland four-year-old Wild And Proud previously trained by Gai Waterhouse.

Under Waterhouse’s care the gelding won three of their 14 starts, most notably the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) in the wet over Group 1 winner Manawanui in Sydney back in March this year.

Last seen finishing a disappointing eighth to Darci Be Good in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) on November 8, Wild And Proud has now been transferred to Pfieffer after previous owners Gooree Stud sold the horse to new connections last week.

Having arrived at Pfieffer’s base last week the horse is currently in the paddock where they will spend about two months enjoying a spell before coming back in the winter.

“He was in the stables for a few days just having the farrier, chiropractor and vets take a look at bits and pieces and he goes to the paddock today,” Pfieffer said.

“He will probably have a nice eight week break.

“I will go check him out in the paddock in about a months’ time to see what I think and go from there.”

While it is still many months away Pfieffer has high hopes for the $266,180 earner who he hopes to have ready for the $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 8 next year, with a few wet tracks along the way not going astray.

“He will be readied for the winter,” Pfieffer said.

“His best form is on wet tracks and I’ll shape him towards something like the Stradbroke and we’ll try and place him in races that are winnable along the way.”
