2012 Carbine Club of W.A. Stakes Field & Barriers Released

A talented field of gallopers is engaged to face off in Saturday’s Carbine Club of W.A. Stakes 2012 the race one of six black type features running at Ascot for Railway Stakes Day.

Set to jump as Ascot Race 5 at 2:00pm the $80,000 Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m) has this year drawn a final field of 10 hopefuls including the horses that ran two-three behind Grey Monarch in the handicap last year.

Runner-up 12 months ago the Neville Parnham-trained Dempsey is back for another shot in 2012 drawn in gate six, the same barrier they jumped from last year.

It has been a long time between drinks for the Flying Spur six-year-old who hasn’t won a race since May of 2011.

The Steve Wolfe-trained Our Ol’ Fella meanwhile was third in the Carbine Club Stakes last year and look a top chance of improving on that this Saturday coming off two good fourth place finishes at Group level firstly to Power Princess in the Group 3 Prince OF Wales Stakes (1200m) and then to Saturday’s Railway Stakes favourite Luckygray in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) on November 10.

The six-year-old Halo Homewrecker gelding has carried 58.5kg and 59kg respectively for their past two starts and will relish the drop back to 54kg for their weekend assignment.

Last year Grey Monarch came off a third in the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) before their Carbine Club of WA Stakes win.

This year the horses that have come via that same lead-up race are the David Harrison-trained Mcscar (3rd) who has drawn nicely in gate two this weekend, Blackfriars six-year-old Kerrific (4th) who also ran second to King Saul in the Northerly Stakes and third to Westriver Kevydonn in the Asian Beau Stakes this season, Dempsey (5th) and Parnham’s other runner Elliotto (8th).
