Boss Likes Travinator for 2012 Winterbottom Stakes

Glen Boss is looking forward to his stint over in WA this weekend racing at Ascot’s Super Saturday having secured a gun ride in the Winterbottom Stakes 2012 aboard the in-form Travinator.

Shamrocker & Glenn Boss

Glen Boss (aboard Shamrocker here) will travel to Perth to ride Travinator in the Winterbottom Stakes 2012 this Saturday

Prepared by Daniel Pearce at Lark Hill four-year-old Mosayter gelding Travinator is one of the top fancies in a 10-horse field for the $500,000 Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) this year, the horse out for their fifth straight win this time in.

A winner of seven of their nine starts to date Travinator faces a big class rise this weekend as they make not only their Group 1 debut but race against stakes company for the first time.

Boss heads over for the ride on Travinator who was last seen running away to win a Benchmark 74 over 1000m at Ascot by an impressive seven lengths on November 3 with Ben Paterson in the saddle.

While Boss has never ridden the horse he is impressed by what he’s seen of them so far and knows how good the sprinters are over in Perth.

“I’ve done a bit of homework on him and his times and racetrack wins have been very good,” Boss said.

“It’s amazing how over in the west they can produce a very good sprinter, and it looks like they’ve got a couple that are serious racehorses.

“It’s a small meeting back here at Moonee Valley and it looks as though I’ll pick up a few more local rides at Ascot, which will be well worth me making the trip.”

Boss won’t be the only interstate raider in this year’s Winterbottom Stakes either with three horses from outside of WA also making the trip to contest the lucrative sprint with the Peter Snowden-trained Pinwheel, Tony Gollan’s Brisbane galloper Spirit Of Boom and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Patinack Farm Classic minor place-getter Hallowell Belle to be ridden by Corey Brown.

Their biggest danger in the 2012 Winterbottom Stakes field however is Barakey, Jim Taylor’s five-year-old yet to taste defeat having won all 10 of their starts including the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) by four lengths last start on November 6.
