Tanby Claims Victory In 2012 Zipping Classic – Sandown Results

Tanby has won the Group 2 Zipping Classic at Sandown Racecourse today November 17, 2012.

The Galileo gelding has now won nine of his 24 race starts and has earned more than $665,000 in prize money.

Tanby won the race by three quarters of a length ahead of Exceptionally, who placed in second, and Precedence, who ran home for third.

The six-year-old was paying odds of $7.50 to win the 2012 Zipping Classic at bookmaker.com.au.

Trainer Robert Hickmott was surprised that his other horse Mourayan wasn’t in the winner’s circle, but was happy to have claimed the win with Tanby.

“Nic (Hall) gave him a great ride,”Hickmott said.

“(But) I really thought (Mourayan) was a great chance.

“Tanby was terrific.

“He’s a nice horse, he really is.

“He’s out of a terrific mare.

“We think he’s still on the up as a horse.

“We’ll look at probably the Sydney Cup in the autumn.

“It’s great to win the Zipping Classic.”

Nic Hall was equally pleased to have won the $350,000 race with Tanby.

“(Owner) Lloyd (Williams) said to me he had this horse very well,” hall said.

“Once I had him settled through the run I thought he had a good chance.”

Prior to today’s 2012 Zipping Classic, Tanby’s most recent result was a third placing in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington Racecourse on November 10.
