Sandown Guineas 2012 Won By Tatra – Race 7 Results

Tatra has claimed victory in the $350,000 Sandown Guineas at Sandown Racecourse today November 17, 2012.

The three-year-old just held off a late charge from race favourite Lunar Rise, who placed second, and Tatra’s stable mate Proverb, who stormed home for third.

Tatra has now won three of his ten race starts and has earned more than $430,000 in prize money.

The Hussonet colt placed second in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes prior to today’s 2012 Sandown Guineas win.

Stable foreman Paul Snowden was at the track to see both his horses place in the top three.

“It was tooth and nail right down to the wire for both horses,” Snowden said.

“It was a good result.”

Trainer Peter Snowden was also down from Sydney to watch Tatra win the 2012 Sandown Guineas.

“It’s… a good race to win,” he said.

“It’s a hard race to keep a horse up for.

“They almost quinella’d it.”

Snowden confirmed that Tatra would likely see his  career out on Australian soil, rather than being sent to Godolphin’s Newmarket stable like many Darley stars before him.

“He’s a very handy horse but he’s just not A grade,” Snowden said.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy rode Tatra to today’s 2012 Sandown Guineas win.

“There wasn’t much in it,” admitted McEvoy

“I could hear Lunar Rise and the other horse coming.

“My fella just dug deep.

“He’s always shown nice promise.

“Up on the speed here today he toughed it out well.”
