Mahisara Is 2012 Sandown Stakes Winner – Race Results

The Group 3 Sandown Stakes has been won by Mahisara at Sandown Racecourse today November 17, 2012.

Mahisara appeared in a league of his own as he blitzed the remainder of the Sandown Stakes field in today’s race.

Morant placed second in the 2012 Sandown Stakes, while Raspberries held on for a gallant third.

Punters appear to have got it right this time around, with Mahisara paying odds of $3 to win the race at

He was also the 2012 Sandown Stakes market mover.

Mahisara has now won three of his four race starts this spring, with his last start result being a victory in the $100,000 Headquarters Tavern Plate at Flemington Racecourse on Melbourne Cup Day.

Trainer Paul Messara was pleased to see the More Than Ready entire continue his winning ways at Sandwon.

“He’s a bull and you’ve got to let him do things his own way,” Messara said.

“(But) he quickened far better than I expected him to.”

Messara is yet to make any solid plans for Mahisara’s future.

“It’s one race at a time, we’ll have a chat to the owners,” he said.

“Today was the goal for the immediate prep.”

The trainer feels that Mahisara can continue to improve without being gelded, despite his stallion temperament.

“As long as he’s racing as truly as he is he gets to keep them,” Messara joked.

Craig Williams, who flys out to Japan on Monday, was aboard Mahisara for today’s 2012 Sandown Stakes win.

“For a jockey he’s actually a beautiful ride,” Williams said.

“I’ve been pretty happy with the last two rides on him.

“Well done to Paul Messara and all his staff.

“He’s now got a Group race beside his name.

“I think he can find another Group race for him in the autumn.”
