Flying Victorian mare Star Of Giselle has opened top of the Eclipse Stakes 2012 odds for this Saturday’s Zipping Classic Day showdown, the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained five-year-old shooting for her fourth win on the trot in the handicap showdown.
Set to run as Sandown Race 4 at 2:10pm (AEST) the $150,000 Group 3 Snowhite Maintenance Eclipse Stakes (1800m) has drawn a small but classy field of 10 hopefuls, the favourite of which is Star Of Giselle.
Drawn ideally in barrier two and coming off three flawless runs the daughter of Reset is currently installed as the $3.30 favourite in the Eclipse Stakes betting markets.
After a second-up win at Caulfield in September Star Of Giselle scored her maiden stakes victory with a win at the same track next start in the Listed Race-Tech Classic over the mile.
She then backed up at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day and broke her Group duck with a bit one and three quarter length victory in the Group 3 Tesio Stakes (1600m), Star Of Giselle well-fancied to add another Group win to her record on the weekend.
Four of her rivals are also under $10 in the Eclipse Stakes odds 2012 with:
- #6 Strike The Stars ($4.60) – Anthony Cummings-trained Savabeel four-year-old coming off mixed form, the multiple Group 1 performer having won just one of their 16 starts to date and now seeking their first victory since last year’s Gloaming Stakes
- #1 Grey Assignment ($6.50) – Brisbane raider from the Eagle Farm stables of Kelso Wood beein in great form back home this season with five wins from six starts before travelling to Melbourne to run a nose away second in the Listed Diamond Jubilee Plate (1800m) on Melbourne Cup Day, carried 59.5kg then and have the 59kg topweight for this
- #5 Éclair Surprise ($7) – Diamond Jubliee Plate winner, Phillip Stokes’ Adelaide visitor travelled over from WA for their Melbourne Cup Day triumph and looking to add another win back in their native state (previously prepared by both Peter Moody & Robert Smerdon)
- #10 Niconoise ($7) – Another last-start Flemington winner this one prepared by David Hayes, won an 1800m Crown Oaks Day race last Thursday, well weighted on the 54kg minimum again here and also gets a nice draw (gate five)
