Railway Stakes 2012 – Nominations & Weights

The Group 1 Railway Stakes is due to be the highlight of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival, and is scheduled to run at Ascot Racecourse next Saturday November 24, 2012.

Weights and nominations have now been released for the 2012 Railway Stakes and reveal there are still 45 horses in the running to gain a spot in the final field.

Top weight for the 2012 Railway Stakes is currently Luckygray, who won last year’s race under controversial circumstances.

He’s Remarkable was first past the post, however, Luckygray was promoted to victory after his jockey lodged a successful protest against the original winner.

Luckygray has won 11 of his 16 race starts and has earned more than $1.27 million in prize money during his horse racing career.

The five-year-old’s most recent result was a win in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes at Ascot Racecourse on November 10, 2012, which he won by a dominant two lengths.

Luckygray is now back to his comfort zone in Perth after unsuccessfully attempting to break his maiden in Melbourne earlier this spring.

He posted a fourth placing in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes, before finishing a disappointing 11th in the Group 2 Memsie Stakes in September.

Luckygray will carry 58 kilograms for the 2012 Railway Stakes and is number one on the balloted order of entry

Also included in the 2012 Railway Stakes nominations and weights is Solzhenitsyn, who has been allocated 57 kilograms for the $1 million race.

Solzhenitsyn won the Group 1 Toorak Handicap earlier this preparation and will be out to post his second Group 1 victory in the 2012 Railway Stakes next weekend.

Fat Al, Fawkner and Yosei are also included in the 2012 Railway Stakes nominations.
