Melbourne Cup Runners Headline 2012 Zipping Classic Nominations

Nominations have been released for the 2012 Zipping Classic at Sandown Racecourse this Saturday.

Just 14 horses have nominated for a spot in the Zipping Classic’s 16-horse field, including Mourayan.


Mourayan is one of the Melbourne Cup runners nominated for the 2012 Zipping Classic this weekend.

Mourayan ran in the $6 million Melbourne Cup last start, where he finished a respectable seventh place and earned $125,000 in prize money.

The Alhaarth entire has won four of his 33 race starts and has earned more than $1.17 million in prize money.

The seven-year-old has been in winning form this spring, claiming victory in the Group 3 Craven Plate at Royal Randwick Racecourse prior to his Melbourne Cup run.

Mourayan is co-owned by Lloyd Williams and is trained at Mt Macedon by Robert Hickmott.

My Quest For Peace is also amongst the nominations for the 2012 Zipping Classic, which was originally known as the Sandown Classic.

While he is nominated for the race, he may still bypass the Zipping Classic in favour of the Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin Tacecourse in December.

The four-year-old placed 10th in the Melbourne Cup last start and will be out to turn his form around in the 2012 Zipping Classic.

My Quest For Peace will be back to the more suitable distance of 2,400 metres should he run in the 2012 Zipping Classic, with the entire having won over this trip in the past.

The Luca Cumani-trained galloper will contest this Saturday’s race before heading back to his home county of England, should his connections choose not to take him to Hong Kong.

He had two starts in Australia, placing a commendable fifth in the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup prior to his Melbourne Cup run.

Precedence, Moudre and Ibecenco are also included in the 2012 Zipping Classic nominations.
