Happy Trails Wins 2012 Emirates Stakes – Results

Happy Trails has won the $1 million Emirates Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today November 10, 2012.

The five-year-old scored his first Group 1 in the 2012 Emirates Stakes by a nose in front of Fawkner, who fought on for second, and Secret Admirer, who placed in third.

Happy Trails has now won five of his 29 race starts and has earned more than $1.2 million in prize money during his horse racing career.

The Good Journey gelding finished 10th in the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley Racecourse last start and has turned his form around to win the 2012 Emirates Stakes today.

Jockey Damien Oliver was confident all along that Happy Trails could win the 2012 Emirates Stakes.

“Before the Cox Plate I said to Paul (Beshara) don’t forget me for this race I think he can win it,” Oliver said.

“He’s really stepped up.”

It was the first Group 1 win for trainer Paul Beshara, as well as the first Emirates Stakes win for Oliver.

“This race as eluded me for my whole career and it’s great to finally win it,” he said.

“I’d just really like to thank Paul Beshara.

“A… deserving win for them.

“I’m just really excited and thankful that I could get their first Group 1 with this horse.

“So all credit to Paul.”

Beshara couldn’t hide his excitement after the 2012 Emirates Stakes was run and won by Happy Trails.

“This is a great moment, a very great moment,” Beshara said.

“(Damien Oliver) deserves this win and so does this horse.”

The trainer revealed his last start in the Cox Plate was best forgotten.

“He just didn’t have any luck,” he said.

“Today Damien rode him how he should have been ridden and that’s it, he wins.”

Happy Trail’s next target will be the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap during the autumn racing carnival.

“He’ll go out now and get him ready for the autumn carnival and he’ll go to the Doncaster again,” Beshara said.
