2012 Patinack Farm Classic Won By Mental – Race 5 Results

Mental has taken out the 2012 Patinack Farm Classic on Emirates Stakes Day at Flemington.

The four-year-old won the Group 1 race by half a length in front of Sea Siren, who placed second, while Hallowell Belle rounded out the placings in third.

Highly favoured galloper Buffering failed to run on from the outside of the course and finished a disappointing eighth.

Mental has now won seven of his 12 race starts and has earned more than $1 million in prize money.

The Lonhro gelding will now be sent to Darley‘s big brother, the Godolphon stable, in order to allow him to contest sprints in places such as Europe.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy confessed he will miss riding Mental, who finished second to Sea Siren in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes last start.

“He’s heading overseas so I’m going to be sad to see him go,” McEvoy said.

McEvoy was thrilled that Mental was able to win his final swansong in Australia in today’s 2012 Patinack Farm Classic.

“Pete (Snowden) picked this race out a few months ago,” he said.

“He ran fantastic at Moonee Valley… and Pete just thought the straight race will really suit him.

“He showed good promise early winning nice races up in Brisbane.

“He’s gotten quicker… and he’s got stronger.”

Trainer Peter Snowden had always expected Mental to be in the mix to win today’s 2012 Patinack Farm Classic.

“Great effort, he put the writing on the wall at Moonee Valley (last start),” Snowden said.

“He really brought his A game here today.

“I was quietly confident he’d run well.

“It was going to be his swansong.

“He’s going out there a winner in our best company.

“He’s still on the way up which is the best part about him.

“In 12 months’ time he’ll be that much better again.”
