2012 Emirates Stakes Day Tips

Emirates Stakes Day 2012 will bring the Melbourne Cup Carnival to a close this Saturday, November 10, and with two Group 1 features, a race full of Melbourne Cup hard luck stories and plenty of other exciting events on the card so there is something for everyone at the Flemington meeting.

Solzhenitsyn is the Races.com.au tip to win the 2012 Emirates Stakes this weekend

Flemington racing is due to get underway at 11:30am (AEST) with the $150,000 Group 3 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) for two-year-olds where Crack A Roadie looks the one to beat.

The action will continue right through until Race 9 at 5:10pm (AEST) with the $100,000 Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m).

The two major races on the program however are the final two Group 1 events of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival with the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) running as Race 5 with Manikato Stakes winner Sea Siren the one to beat, and the meeting’s marquee event, the $1 million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) running as Race 6 at 3:00pm (AEST).

To help you see out the Melbourne Cup Carnival on a high below we have made our insider Emirates Stakes Day tips 2012 public knowledge.

Remember when you’re ready to get behind your Flemington favourites this weekend make sure you lock them in at the best prices online at bookmaker.com.au – home of the $400 bonus welcome bet offer!

Race 1 – 11:30am $150,000 Group 3 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Maribyrnong Plate (1000m)

  • #1 Crack A Roadie ($4.60) from #5 Citations ($3.50) and #11 Diva Dee ($7.50)

Read why we like Craig Williams’ mount Crack A Roadie to stay unbeaten in our Maribyrnong Plate 2012 Betting Tips post.

Race 2 – 12:10pm $100,000 Momentum Energy Trophy (1600m)

  • #3 Galah ($2.40) from #1 Strike The Stars ($10) and Why Not ($8)

Peter Snowden’s Group 1 performed Galah should be ready to strike third-up here getting to the mile, good form at the distance with a third to At Al over 1600m during the autumn, also a Group 3 winner over the track and distance last Derby Day. Strike The Stars will relish the straight at Flemington after two unplaced efforts at Caulfield. Hong Kong import Why Not having their first run down under and should be in the mix.

Race 3 – 12:50pm $100,000 Antler Luggage Handicap (2000m)

  • #4 Hoylonny ($4.20) from #3 Sertorius ($2.60) and #2 Mourinho ($9)

Better value in Hoylonny (the market mover) for us than the favourite, the Chris Waller-trained four-year-old out for their fourth on the trot making their Melbourne debut. Sertorius coming off fourth straight wins and is the form horse, last two over the mile including the Sale Cup.

Race 4 – 1:30pm $150,000 Listed Hilton Hotels Stakes (1400m)

  • #1 Academus ($7) from #11 Essay Raider ($7) and #5 Chosen Moment ($13)

Open market without a standout, going for Academus from Snowden’s Sydne stables who was competitive in Brisbane during the winter including their third in the Group 1 TJ Smith. First-up win at Hawkesbury was also good. Essay Raider is lightly-raced having start number four here but tipped to improve getting up to 1400m for the first time while Chosen Moment was third at Moonee Valley in a Group 3 last start and Flemington straight will suit.

Race 5 – 2:15pm $1,000,000 Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m)

  • #5 Mental ($6) from #1 Buffering ($5) and #11 Hallowell Belle ($16)

Read our detailed Patinack Farm Classic Betting Tips 2012 preview for why we like Snowden’s young gun Mental to turn the tables on their last start conqueror for a good value win in the big one.

Race 6 – 3:00pm $100,000 Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m)

  • #4 Solzhenitsyn ($6.50) from #10 Fawkner ($4.80) and #16 Spirit Song ($15)

We are tipping another upset in the second Group 1 here, check out our 2012 Emirates Stakes Tips article for why Brisbane raider Solzhenitsyn can upset the favourite Fawkner in the mile classic.

Race 7 – 3:45pm $300,000 Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m)

  • #1 Silent Achiever ($1.70) from #7 Lake Sententia ($7.50) and #4 Crafty Irna ($10)

Check out our complete 2012 Matriarch Stakes Betting Tips for the full run down on the odds-on favouriote and her rivals.

Race 8 – 4:30pm $250,000 Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m)

  • #2 Shahwardi ($5.50) from #9 Vatuvei ($10) and #11 Puissance De Lune ($2.90)

They missed out on a Melbourne Cup start but they won’t miss this consolation prize, read why we like Shahwardi for the win in our 2012 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting Preview.

Race 9 – 5:10pm $100,000 Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m)

  • #2 Instinction ($5.50) from #8 Tokugawa ($3.60) and #6 Testascana ($12)

Instinction caught the eye with their last start Caulfield win and also boasts a previous victory over this track and distance so have the right credentials. Tokugawa will relish the step back in class after their brave fourth in the Group 2 Crystal Mile while Testascana gets the draw and with a bit of luck can finish in the money.
