Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
John O’Shea’s triple Group 1 winning mare Sea Siren has opened top of the Patinack Farm Classic 2012 betting odds, the sprint clash to run as one of two Group 1 features on the Emirates Stakes Day program at Flemington this Saturday.
Winner of the BTC Cup – Doomben 10,000 double in Brisbane during the winter, Fastnet Rock four-year-old Sea Siren returned in ace form this spring when scoring a first-up victory in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley under the lights on October 26.
She will now vie for her impressive fourth Group 1 title in the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) this weekend, Sea Siren leading the current bookmaker.com.au markets at a quote of $3.60 after drawing barrier nine of 15.
There are then two other horses under double figures in the Patinack Farm odds with Buffering and Mental installed as the equal $5.50 second favourites.
Rob Heathcote’s beaten Manikato Stakes favourite Buffering failed to finally break their Group 1 maiden status last time out when they ran a career worst sixth to Sea Siren.
It seems the Group 1 gods are against them again on Saturday with last year’s Patinack Farm runner-up to Black Caviar having drawn disastrously wide with barrier 15.
Mental meanwhile is also in double figures drawn one outside the favouirte in gate 10, Peter Snowden’s Lonhro four-old coming off a close second when beaten only quarter of a length in the Manikato.
Other notable hopefuls at slightly longer odds then include Con Karakatsanis’ beaten Yellowglen Stakes favourite from Derby Day Howmuchdoyouloveme ($12) who had previously won their past four starts, and Gai Waterhouse’s Group winning mare Hallowell Belle ($15) coming off a fourth in the Manikato.
Howmuchdoyouloveme was thought to be suffering from a strained muscle explaining their last start loss and Karakatsanis wants to make sure they are 100 percent fit before running them in Saturday’s Group 1.
“He seems to be progressing OK but I want to test him under saddle before putting him in the race,” Karakatsanis said.
“If he is healthy enough to run, we will run.”
Four other gallopers are then also under $20 in the markets with Gerald Ryan’s super consistent young filly Snitzerland ($19), the Joe Pride-trained Tiger Tees ($17) last seen running a close third in the Yellowglen, and the Tony Gollan-trained duo of former Group 1 The Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom ($17) and Spirit Of Boom ($17).
