2012 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Odds Led by Puissance De Lune

Emphatic Bendigo Cup winner Puissance De Lune has opened top of the odds for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2012 at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday.

Puissance De Lune

Bendigo Cup winner Puissance De Lune is favourite for Saturday's Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2012

One of the key support races on the Emirates Stakes Day program, the $250,000 Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) looks a class race that has drawn a quality 14-horse field of stayers, a number of which are after the $100,000 bonus on offer to any horse balloted out of the 2012 Melbourne Cup that takes out the race.

In the current Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting markets the Darren Weir-trained Shamardal grey Puissance De Lune is leading the way at a quote of $3 after their blistering eight length victory in the Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) on October 31.

The imported French galloper was stepping up to black-type company and the mile and a half for the first time in the Bendigo Cup and with ace hoop Glen Boss retaining the ride looks the one to beat in the Queen Elizabeth on Saturday.

Four other hopefuls are then at single figures in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2012 odds with:

  • #2 Shahwardi ($5.50) – Alain de Royer Dupre-trained French stayer that looked on track to join stablemate Americain in the Melbourne Cup field after their commanding victory in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) which proved not enough for the Prix Kergorlay place-getter to get in, chance for the consolation prize here with distance and track to suit
  • #12 Dare To Dream ($7) – Another horse balloted out of the Cup on Tuesday, Bart Cummings’ imported Danehill Dancer stallion was last seen running a brave second to subsequent Melbourne Cup fourth placed Kelinni in the Lexus Stakes over 2500m at this track, out for their maiden win down under
  • #1 Lost In The Moment ($9) – Connections took the chances with this European raider but it saw them miss a Cup call-up, Kerrin McEvoy rides the Saeed Bin Suroor-trained six-year-old that was last seen running third over two miles at Newmarket (GB) in September but first-up record is hit and miss
  • #9 Vatuvei ($9.50) – Peter Moody-trained four-year-old, winner of the VRC St Leger here over 2800m back in April, also unlucky to miss out on a Melbourne Cup start after an impressive victory in the MV Gold Cup on Cox Plate Day, right distance and track for a big end of prep run

Other notable Queen Elizabeth hopefuls this weekend then include Seymour galloper Folding Gear ($10) coming off a Caulfield Cup seventh who has drawn on the rails, and Robert Hickmott-trained Herbert Power runner-up Excluded ($15) out in the extreme outside barrier who is looking to bounce back after their dead last in the Lexus.
