Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Melbourne Cup 2012 is nearing ever closer and the betting markets have continued to reshuffle.
Mount Athos and Dunaden are currently the new favourites and are paying odds of $7 to win the 2012 Melbourne Cup at bookmaker.com.au.
Five-year-old Mount Athos has found himself well supported with Australian punters due to his recent flawless race record.
The Montjeu gelding has won all three of his race starts this campaign and will go into the 2012 Melbourne Cup on the back of a win in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes.
Mount Athos has won seven of his 20 race starts and has earned more than $200,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
Dunaden is also highly fancied in the 2012 Melbourne Cup betting.
The six-year-old won his last start in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup and will have to carry 59 kilograms when he runs in today’s 2012 Melbourne Cup.
Dunaden has won all three of his previous race starts in Australia and may well become the sixth horse to win consecutive Melbourne Cups in today’s race.
Third favourite for the 2012 Melbourne Cup is Americain, who is currently at odds of $8.
Americain firmed into odds of $5 at one point, however, has appeared to have lost favour with punters in the betting markets.
The seven-year-old produced what was arguably the run of the race to finish fourth in the Caulfield Cup last start.
Don’t miss out on claiming top odds this Melbourne Cup Day.
