Bart Cummings Duo Out To Deliver 13th Melbourne Cup Victory In 2012

Bart Cummings will have his chance to secure an unbelievable 13th Melbourne Cup when his two stayers line up for the race today November 6, 2012.

The Cups King, as he’s commonly known, will be represented by both Sanagas and Precedence in the 2012 Melbourne Cup.

Despite both horses not being well supported in the betting markets, Cummings is hopeful that this will be his year- again.

Bart Cummings will attempt to win the 2012 Melbourne Cup with Sanagas and Precedence.

Sanagas is currently paying odds of $51 to win the 2012 Melbourne Cup at

The six-year-old is yet to win a race in Australia since arriving here earlier this spring.

The Lomitas gelding is a Group 1 winner in America and will be looking to find that form when he runs in the 2012 Melbourne Cup today.

Cummings is optimistic about his winning chances but understands there is a lot of classy competition.

“It is a very open Cup, lot of chances,” Cummings said.

“Sanagas and Precedence are going OK, no problem – actually I’m pretty happy with them.”

Sanagas’ most recent result was a 10th placing in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on October 20, 2012.

“Sanagas didn’t get a lot of room at Caulfield and he got to the line well,” Cummings said.

“Flemington will suit him. Those big tracks in Europe, he is used to them, and he is used to the distance, too.

“He’s put on a lot of weight since he’s been here, he’s going pretty good.”

Precedence will return today for his third attempt at the $6 million Melbourne Cup.

He placed eighth in 2010 behind Americain, before passing the post in 11th place last year.

Cummings feels that the 2012 Melbourne Cup may well be the seven-year-old’s best chance.

“He’s by Zabeel and they improve with age,” he explained.

“This is the best he has been since we have been training him.”

Precedence has won seven of his 44 race starts and has earned more than $1.02 million in prize money.
