Will Fiorente Win Gai Waterhouse Her Maiden Melbourne Cup?

Lightly-raced Fiorente will be attempting to turn around Gai Waterhouse’s disappointing Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival when he runs in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse tomorrow.

The five -year-old has only recently joined the Waterhouse stable and will be having his first run in Australia in the Melbourne Cup.

The son of Monsun has been in good form this campaign and defeated 2011 Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux in the Group 2 Princess of Wales Stakes (2400m) at Newmarket Racecourse in July.

His most recent run was in the Group 2 Prix Foy (2400m), a traditional lead-up race to the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, where he finished fourth behind Japanese superstar Orfevre.

Fiorente is currently available at odds of $31 in the 2012 Melbourne Cup betting market at bookmaker.com.au.
