Races.com.au 2012 Melbourne Cup Exacta Tip
First – #8 Mount Athos $7.50
This Montjeu gelding trained by Luca Cumani could be the horse to deliver the famous trainer his first Melbourne Cup.
There aren’t too many boxes he doesn’t tick. He’s got good form, he’ll stay the trip, he’s well weighted with 54kg and has drawn barrier eight.
Cumani rates him as the best horse he has ever brought to the Melbourne Cup and he won his last three starts prior to arriving.
Takes a bit to wind up but will stay the trip and once he hits top pace he can really power through the line. Only query is he is yet to race in Australia.
Second – #1 Dunaden $7.50
The absolute class galloper in the field who won last year and looks to be an improved product this time around.
Has to carry a big weight of 59kg this year which is the only query but he did carry 58kg when storming home to an outstanding Caulfield Cup win last month.
He’s been there done that, is in form, has star jockey Craig Williams on board. A must for exotics.
