Yellowglen Stakes 2012 Won By Fontelina – Race 8 Results

Fontelina has survived a late charge from Spirit Of Boom to win the Group 2 Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today November 3, 2012.

The Testa Rossa gelding won the race by a head in front of Spirit Of Boom, who came from behind to force a photo finish.

Tiger Tees rounded off the placings in fourth position, while Miss Marx passed the post in fourth.

Fontelina has now won four of her 11 race starts and has earned more than $350,000 in prize money during his hrose racing career.

The four-year-old was paying odds of $13 to win the Yellowglen Stakes 2012 at bookmaker.com.au.

Jockey Vlad Duric rode Fontelina to victory in the 2012 Yellowglen Stakes today.

Duric admitted he wasn’t 100% certain he had scored the win after seeing Spirit Of Boom’s late sprint.

“I wasn’t sure but I was pretty confident I won,” Duric said.

The jockey has become a regular rider for trainer Anthony Cummings this spring racing carnival.

“I have this spring,” he said.

“(But) I do most of my riding for Darley.

“Anthony’s been a great supporter and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

It was the second win of the day for Cummings, who scored the feature event when Fiveandahalfstar won the $1.5 million Victoria Derby.

Cummings also revealed he had a nervous moment when he spotted Spirit Of Boom’s massive run.

“I thought he was going to win until the horse came down the outside,” Cummings said.

However, it wasn’t enough to take down Fontelina, who was having his first start for the spring in the 2012 Yellowglen Stakes.

“He’s done really great first-up before,” Cummings said.

“This looked the obvious race for him.”
