Lunar Rise Wins 2012 Carbine Club Stakes – Race 1 Results

Lunar Rise has claimed the first race of the day on Victoria Derby Day, winning the 2012 Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington Racecourse.

The three-year-old won the race ahead of Tatra, who finished second, and Proverb, who placed a strong third.

Lunar Rise was paying odds of $8 to win the 2012 Carbine Club Stakes at [bookmaker.com.au].

Trainer Bart Cummings was pleased to watch Lunar Rise win the same race that his Melbourne Cup-winning champion Saintly won back in 1995.

Cummings felt Lunar Rise’s winning 2012 Carbine Club Stakes run was full of merit.

“He covered a bit of ground and got bumped a bit,” Cummings said.

“Let’s hope he can continue.”

The trainer was coy about his future plans for Lunar Rise this spring and claimed that he would make a decision over the next few days.

Jockey Hugh Bowman was aboard Lunar Rise for his winning 2012 Carbine Club Stakes run.

Bowman feels that Lunar Rise will be best suited to a mile, however, believes he will also be competitive over slightly longer distances.

“He might get to 2,000 later on but I think a mile is his perfect trip,” Bowman said.

Lunar Rise has now won three of his eight race starts and has earned more than $215,000 in prize money.

This was the Starcraft gelding’s first Group success, after placing fourth in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at Royal Randwick last start.

Prior to that, Lunar Rise finished third in the Group 2 Gloaming Stakes behind It’s A Dundeel and Honorius.
