Pear Tart Ready to Turn in Myer Classic 2012

Patinack Farm head trainer John Thompson is confident that his Group 1 winning mare Pear Tart can turn the tables on her last start conqueror Streama when the pair face off again in the 2012 Myer Classic at Flemington this Saturday.

Tattersall's Tiara winner Pear Tart is a genuine chance of another Group 1 win in the Myer Classic 2012

One of the four Group 1 highlights of Victoria Derby Day the $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) features a classy field of 13 hopefuls this year, Pear Tart and Streama two of the quintet of previous Group 1 winners in the mix.

Winner of the Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm during the winter, the elite level victory capping off a four straight winning streak for the daughter of Dehere that also included the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m),  Pear Tart will be third-up in the Myer Classic 2012 this weekend.

She resumed with a seventh to another Myer hopeful Red Tracer in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 6 before her improved second defeated just over a length by the Guy Walter-trained Streama in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield a fortnight ago this Saturday.

With a similar field to the Tristarc runners accepted for the Myer Classic Thompson believes Pear Tart, drawn just worse than mid-field in barrier eight with Christian Reith retaining the ride, has the improvement in her to score another Group 1 victory at just her second start in Melbourne.

“If any horse in the stable has thrived down here it is her,” he said.

“Her run the other day was very good and I know she has improved from that.”
