2012 Victoria Derby Betting Pre-Field

Wednesday will see the final Victoria Derby 2012 field released but before the official starting line-up is confirmed there is plenty of value to be had in the all-in Victoria Derby pre-field odds.

Super Cool

Surprise MV Vase winner Super Cool is one of the 2012 Victoria Derby betting market movers

Twenty-four three-year-olds make up the current entries for the $1.5 million Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) but that figure will be cut to a capacity 16-starters plus four emergencies tomorrow morning.

Despite suffering their first career loss in a shock Cox Plate Day defeat last Saturday, Murray Baker’s Group 1 winning Kiwi galloper It’s A Dundeel remains the $2.40 Victoria Derby betting favourite at bookmaker.com.au.

They have eased out slightly from their pre Moonee Valley Vase loss but the money has come in for them over the past 24 hours with punters getting back on their bandwagon with talk of Flemington to suit their style much more than the notoriously tight Valley track.

Former Victoria Derby second pick Solemn meanwhile has been ruled out of the race due to an elevated temperature and is already in the paddock spelling.

In their absence there has been a reshuffle of the Victoria Derby odds with the Mark Kavanagh-trained Super Cool, the only horse to have gotten the better of It’s A Dundeel, now occupying the second line of betting at $5.50 – in from $7.

Also ruled out of the Victoria Derby 2012 ahead of tomorrow’s final acceptances are the Peter Moody-trained Correggio who ran a disappointing fifth in the Geelong Classic last Wednesday, and Stephen Theodore’s Geelong Classic eighth placed Road Trippin who will be saved for the $150,000 Listed Batman Handicap (1800m) on Crown Oaks Day Thursday week.

Other notable Victoria Derby market movers meanwhile include the David Payne-trained Spring Champion Stakes third place-getter Honorius ($8 into $6.50) and Norman Robinson Stakes fourth place-getter Subiaso who has been heavily backed in from $21 to $15.
