Snitzerland Tops 2012 Coolmore Stud Stakes Nominations

Gerald Ryan’s flying filly Snitzerland heads a talented group of three-year-olds entered for Saturday’s Group 1 2012 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

Snitzerland will be out to add record a fifth straight win at Flemington on Saturday

The Golden Slipper runner-upĀ  has been one of the stars of the spring so far, going unbeaten in her four starts to date.

She came out of the blocks flying in Sydney to claim the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill before going on to claim the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m), the Champagne Stakes (1200m) and the $250,000 Blue Sapphire (1200m).

A winner of six of nine starts and more than $1.325 million in prizemoney, Snitzerland will be looking to add her first Group 1 title to her impressive resume this weekend.

But she meets some worthy challengers including Queensland colt Sizzling who won four races during the Queensland winter as a two-year-old including the Group 1 TJ Smith.

The Kelso Wood-trained youngster was slow in the early stages of his spring opener in the Blue Sapphire but flew home to grab fourth and finish half a length behind Snitzerland.

Joining the top rated pair in Coolmore Stud Stakes nominations is Patinack filly Nechita who will be having her first start since failing when favourite in the Golden Rose.

Trainer John Thompson is now confident she is destined to be a sprinter rather than a middle-distance horse and is expecting her to bounce back this weekend.

“She looks like a sprinter and is a good sprinter and will reach the top level, no doubt in my mind,” Thompson said.

Also in the field is lightly-raced filly Jolie Bay who has shown plenty of promise in the early stages of her career.

The Fastnet Rock filly finished fourth on debut in May but has delivered two victories and a runner-up finish this spring including beating a decent field in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

The Coolmore Stud Stakes takes place as part on action-packed card that also includes the Group 1 2012 Victoria Derby, the 2012 Myer Classic and 2012 Mackinnon Stakes.
