Fat Al heads nominations for the Chatham Stakes at Flemington on Saturday

The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding is on of 18 horses entered for the $250,000 event which is also known as the 2012 Tab.com.au Stakes.

The four-year-old picked up where he left off an unbeaten autumn campaign this spring, finishing second in the Group 2 Theo Marks Sprint, third in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes and winning the Epsom.

Another nominated horse in good form is Darley four-year-old Free Wheeling who backed up a strong winter campaign to open his spring with a dominant win in the Listed Hair and Beauty Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 17.

The entire is one of a group of Darley-owned horses who will head to Dubai and Europe following the spring to race as part of Godolphin’s international operation.

Chasing a third consecutive win but a rise in class is the Lloyd Williams-owned Fawkner who has been impressive this spring winning both the Listed Sofitel Stakes (1400m) and the Listed Tavern Stakes (1400m).

Group 1 winner Mid Summer Music is one of the better credentialed nominations but she may not line up as she is also entered for the Group 2 Salinger Stakes.

The seven-year-old won the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap during the winter and has placed behind Black Caviar but has been unable to find her best form so far this spring, having finished eighth in the Gilgai Stakes and seventh in the Caulfield Sprint.

Others nominated for the Chatham Stakes include former Doncaster place-getter Bold Glance, Colin Little-trained mare Soft Sand and New Zealand-bred veteran Wall Street.

When markets open later this week on all the Flemington action, the best place to find a winner is bookmaker.com.au.
