Super Cool Defeats It’s A Dundeel In 2012 Mitchelton Wines Vase – Results

It’s A Dundeel has faced his first career defeat in today’s 2012 Mitchelton Wines Vase at Moonee Valley Racecourse, which was won by Super Cool.

Super Cool led all the way to win the 2012 Mitchelton Wines Vase by one and three quarter lengths ahead of It’s A Dundeel, who could not make up the necessary distance down the final straight.

Viking Star finished in second, while Bullion Express passed the post in fourth.

It was the first Group win for Super Cool, who placed second in his most recent start in the $80,000 BMW Handicap at Caulfield Racecourse on October 17.

The Fastnet Rock gelding has now won two of his five race starts and has earned more than $180,000 in prize money.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh couldn’t contain his excitement after the race was run, confirming Super Cool would now head towards the Group 1 Victoria Derby on November 3, 2012.

“(The) Derby’s always been on the agenda,” Kavanagh said.

“He’s taken a bit of tweaking… but he’s sort of peaking at the right time.

“He’s pretty big and he’s pretty gross so it can only improve him.

“We’re starting to reap the rewards now.”

Super Cool was ridden by jockey Michael Rodd in today’s 2012 Mitchelton Wines Vase.

Super Cool

Super Cool has won the 2012 Mitchelton Wines Vase at Moonee Valley on his way towards the $1.5 million Victoria Derby.

Rodd admitted that they’d executed the race in a way that would not suit It’s A Dundeel.

“He’s a horse that does settle back in his races but that is over shorter distances,” Rodd said.

“That’s his only chink in his armour; he doesn’t seem to quicken when he should.”

However, Rodd didn’t want to take anything away from Super Cool’s winning performance.

“My bloke’s got an exceptional turn of foot,” he said.

“He’s a bit underrated too.

“He’s come a very long way in a short amount of time.

“He’s a very cruisey customer.

“He doesn’t do too much. He’s very laid back and relaxed.

“Today should have really topped him off for next week.”
