Race 7 Results – Silent Achiever Is 2012 Crystal Mile Winner

The Group 2 Crystal Mile has been won by Silent Achiever at Moonee Valley Racecourse today October 27, 2012.

Silent Achiever won the race ahead of a gutsy Rangirangdoo, who was gallant in defeat, while Solzhenitsyn endured a checkered run for third.

It was the second run this preparation for Silent Achiever, who finished fourth at Te Rapa Racecourse in New Zealand last start.

Silent Achiever was paying odds of $6 to win the 2012 Crystal Mile at bookmaker.com.au.

Trainer Roger James was pleased to have scored the win with Silent Achiever after the shock defeat of his unbeaten colt It’s A Dundeel earlier in the day.

“I thought it was a good effort,” James said of Silent Achiever’s 2012 Crystal Mile win.

“She had a lot stacked against her today.

“She’s always been a very classy mare.

“She’s ticked all the boxes.”

James will now send Silent Achiever to the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington on November 10, 2012.

“(The) Matriarch was always our main aim,” he said.

The four-year-old will then be brought back to Australia for next year’s Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with a focus on the $2.5 million The BMW.

Silent Acheiver placed third in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas in her first Australian start this autumn, before finishing a respectable sixth in the Group 1 Australian Derby.

“It’s fair to say she probably wasn’t seen at her best in Sydney last year,” James said.

“But we sent when we came home we’d like to have another go.”

Silent Achiever was ridden by New Zealand jockey James McDonald in today’s 2012 Crystal Mile.

“I’ve never been beaten on this filly and it’s good to win here on Cox Plate Day,” McDonald said.

“It’s a big crowd for a young Kiwi kid.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to ride here on such a big day.

“To beat Rangirangdoo at weight-for-age level was very thrilling.

“She’s got a bright future here in Australia.”

Silent Achiever has now won six of her 11 race starts and has earned more than $750,000 in prize money.
