Kazanluk Scores Upset 2012 Fillies Classic Win

Darley-owned filly Kazanluk benefited from the application of blinkers to score a strong win in the Group 2 2012 Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

Kazanluk scores an upset win in the 2012 Fillies Classic

Trained by Anthony Freedman, Kazanluk was a $10 chance at race jump but looked a class above his more fancied rivals as he bolted home to win by 1 1/2 lengths from Stella Lante and Moreau.

The blinkers sharpened up the Red Ransom three-year-old who was beaten by five lengths when third in her previous outing in the Morphetville Guineas.

Kazanluk could still make a last-ditch effort to run in the Group 1 Crown Oaks during Melbourne Cup week and jockey Kerrin McEvoy suggested she has a big future.

“It worked out well…blinkers on. Anthony was happy with her,” McEvoy said.

“She’s won nicely, she’s a nice filly going places.”

“There’s a few options for her and there’s always the autumn.”

Kazanluk is yet to qualify for the Oaks meaning it would be a tough ask as if she gets there she will be having her third run within a two week period.

Favourite Love For Ransom never looked a winning chance and finished in sixth position.
