Manikato Stakes Odds 2012 Led by Buffering

Robert Heathcote’s in-form Queenslander Buffering has opened close to odds-on in the 2012 Manikato Stakes betting markets for the Friday night feature at Moonee Valley.

Buffering has opened the hot favourite for the Manikato Stakes 2012

The Mossman five-year-old, who has recorded eight Group 1 minor placings from 11 starts at the highest level, is currently paying $2 at to finally post a Group 1 win when they contest the $750,000 Manikato Stakes (1200m).

Buffering ran fourth in the race last year behind the since-retired Sepoy, but without the usual suspects dominating this spring’s sprints it looks his time to shine.

Two of Buffering’s nine rivals are also at single-figures in the Manikato Stakes odds with:

  • #7 Sea Siren ($6.50) – John O’Shea-trained Fastnet Rock mare making her four-year-old debut, dual Group 1 winner during the winter taking out Brisbane’s BTC Cup – Doomben 10,000 double, tipped to improve in a few weeks for the 2012 Patinack Farm Classic but still wouldn’t underrate here considering she beat Buffering in the 10,000
  • #10 Lone Rock ($7) – Another Fastnet Rock mare, this one prepared by Robert Smerdon, multiple Group 1 performer hasn’t won a race since September last year out to improve on their first-up seventh to Buffering in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on October 13

Other longer priced chances that could prove awesome value in the big one on Manikato Stakes night then include the likes of Mark Kavanagh’s recent Bobbie Lewis Quality winner We’re Gonna Rock ($13) who comes off a second in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, consistent sprinter Bel Sprinter ($14) who has won six of their 11 starts, and the Peter Snowden-trained Mental ($14) who resumes racing here.
