Cavalry Rose heads the 2012 Red Anchor Stakes Nominations this Cox Plate Day

A popular clash won 12 months ago by Karuta Queen, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) drew 15 nominations.

Heading the list of early entries is the Gerald Ryan-trained Cavalry Rose, the Charge Forward filly coming off a win in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).

Cavalry Rose, who is also Group 1 performed having run eighth to Saturday’s 2012 Cox Plate favourite Pierro in the Golden Slipper during the autumn, is a dual Cox Plate Carnival nominee having also been entered for the Listed William Crockett Stakes (1200m) at the track on Friday evening.

There are three other last-start winners among the Red Anchor Stakes nominees for 2012 with the Leon Corstens-trained Stars In The Sky who won over 955m at the track on October 5, lightly-raced filly Vicario who steps up in class after scoring at Bairnsdale on October 16, and Michael Kent’s recent Cranbourne winner Seven Degrees.

Other higher-rated entries then include the Anthony Freedman-trained duo of Boban and Chosen Moment, Robert Smerdon’s classy Fastnet Rock filly Saturn Rock coming off a third to Cavalry Rose in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes, and Hidden Dragon gelding Hidden Warrior.
