2012 Red Anchor Stakes Nominations – Cox Plate Day Races

One of the supporting races on the Cox Plate Day program at Moonee Valley Racecourse this Saturday will be the Red Anchor Stakes 2012, the three-year-olds showdown registered this year as the Telstra PhoneWords Stakes.

Cavalry Rose

Cavalry Rose heads the 2012 Red Anchor Stakes Nominations this Cox Plate Day

A popular clash won 12 months ago by Karuta Queen, this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) drew 15 nominations.

Heading the list of early entries is the Gerald Ryan-trained Cavalry Rose, the Charge Forward filly coming off a win in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).

Cavalry Rose, who is also Group 1 performed having run eighth to Saturday’s 2012 Cox Plate favourite Pierro in the Golden Slipper during the autumn, is a dual Cox Plate Carnival nominee having also been entered for the Listed William Crockett Stakes (1200m) at the track on Friday evening.

There are three other last-start winners among the Red Anchor Stakes nominees for 2012 with the Leon Corstens-trained Stars In The Sky who won over 955m at the track on October 5, lightly-raced filly Vicario who steps up in class after scoring at Bairnsdale on October 16, and Michael Kent’s recent Cranbourne winner Seven Degrees.

Other higher-rated entries then include the Anthony Freedman-trained duo of Boban and Chosen Moment, Robert Smerdon’s classy Fastnet Rock filly Saturn Rock coming off a third to Cavalry Rose in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes, and Hidden Dragon gelding Hidden Warrior.

See below for the full list of 2012 Telstra PhoneWords Stakes nominations, the final field to be released on Wednesday and published right here at Races.com.au.
