Hvasstan Wins 2012 Norman Robinson Stakes – Caulfield Results

Hvasstan has won the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse today October 20, 2012.

The Fastnet Rock colt went into today’s race with a second placing in the Listed UCI Stakes behind him and managed to turn that into victory in the 2012 Norman Robinson Stakes.

Electric Fusion and Hvasstan

Hvasstan won the $150,000 race by a nose in front of Honorius, who finished second, and Electric Fusion, who placed in third.

Electric Fusion was originally second passed the post, however, was relegated to third after a protest lodge by Honorius’ jockey was upheld.

The three-year-old Hvasstan was paying odds of $6 to win the 2012 Norman Robinson Stakes at bookmaker.com.au.

Trainer Peter Gelagotis was overcome with emotion following the race.

Gelagotis recently lost his father and was quick to attribute him with all the credit for Hvasstan’s win.

“He’s given us the biggest star we could have hoped for,” Gelagotis said.

The trainer told of the love him and his family have for the horse racing industry.

“We are very passionate sportsmen,” he said.

“We love it.

“It’s just great to be part of it. It’s a colourful industry.”

Gelagotis’ brother, Manny, also dedicated today’s 2012 Norman Robinson Stakes to his late father.

“Our father is a champion bloke,” he said.

“It’s just a great story.

“We spent big money on this horse and I’m just thrilled for the owners”

“It was a huge win, it couldn’t be more deserving.”

Hvasstan was ridden by jockey Glen Boss in the 2012 Norman Robinson Stakes.

“Obviously that’s for their dad,” Boss said.

There was a bit of rough and tumble down the final straight, as both Kabayan and Hvasstan bumped while targeting the same run.

“We put a mouth guard in today, gloves off,” the jockey said.

“Nash and I were going for the same run.

“He’s growing up quickly this colt.

“He’s getting it now. In the running he was very good.”

Hvasstan has now won three of his six race starts and has earned more than $175,000 in prize money during his short career.
