The Doomben Cup 2018 takes centre stage in...
This Saturday the biggest meeting of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival so far will take place at Caulfield Racecourse with a bumper 10-race program scheduled for Caulfield Cup Day 2012, the insider Races.com.au betting tips for which are listed below.
Caulfield racing gets underway for Caulfield Cup Day at 11:30am (AEST) with Race 1 – the $100,000 Snowhite Maintenance Plate (1400m) for three-year-old fillies and continues through until Race 10 at 5:30pm (AEST), the $120,000 Listed Carlton Draught Alighi Stakes (1100m).
Of course the headline event the punters and spectators will all be waiting for is the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) due to jump at 4:05pm (AEST) as Caulfield Race 8.
It is shaping up as one of the most intriguing and open editions of the famed mile and a half handicap in many years as the internationals are out in force looking for another victory in this classic.
Caulfield Cup odds are currently led by Gai Waterhouse’s runaway The Metropolitan winner Glencadam Gold ($5.50) who may be undefeated down under but who has a disastrously wide gate to overcome.
Who can beat Glencadam Gold in the Caulfield Cup? There are certainly plenty with their hand up shouting ‘me’ including the big market firmer Lights Of Heaven whose price gets shorter every time one checks the Caulfield Cup betting markets.
While the 2012 Caulfield Cup is the only Group 1 race at the meeting there are plenty of other top class Group races to clean out the bookies with.
Some of the other highlights on the Caulfield Cup Day program include:
Race 6 – 2012 Caulfield Sprint: Favourite is Con Karakatsanis’ lightly-raced sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme who resumes racing out for win number five at career start number six, they step up in class but have the right draw (2) and are classy
Race 9 – 2012 Tristarc Stakes: Myer Classic-bound Mosheen out for her second on the trot here and is the $3.20 favourite to do it from barrier 11 (of 14)
Whether you are just having a quick punt on the Caulfield Cup or you are going for gold with multiple bets this Caulfield Cup Day, below are our tips for a meeting set to be run under perfect sunshine with stars galore on display both on and off the track.
