Howmuchdoyouloveme Leads 2012 Caulfield Sprint Odds

Con Karakatsanis’ flying four-year-old Howmuchdoyouloveme has opened favourite to win their fourth race on the trot when they resume racing in the Caulfield Sprint 2012 on Caulfield Cup Day this Saturday.

hHowmuchdoyouloveme has opened favourite to win Saturday's Caulfield Sprint 2012

The in-form Written Tycoon gelding was undefeated during the winter winning all three of their starts, most recently running away with Grafton’s premier sprint race when taking out the Listed WHK Ramornie Handicap (1200m) by four lengths on July 11.

That was just their fifth career start and on Saturday they will line up for number six, Howmuchdoyouloveme out to maintain their flawless first-up record in the $220,000 Group 2 Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint (1100m).

This year’s Caulfield Sprint field drew 11 acceptors, Howmuchdoyouloveme the clear favourite at a quote of $3.20 having come up trumps with barrier 2.

They will be ridden by regular jockey Brenton Avdulla, who has been aboard the horse for all four of their race wins missing the ride just once when Howmuchdoyoulove suffered their only defeat to date last October, and get in well in the weights to carry 54.5kg.

Three other horses are also at single-figure odds in the Caulfield Sprint betting markets with:

  • #3 Thankgodyou’rehere ($4.40) – Drawn one outside of the favourite in barrier three Glen Boss’s mount will carry 57.5kg, one kilo less than what they carried first-up to finish an eye-catching third defeated only a length by Buffering in the Group 2 AJ Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last month
  • #1 Mid Summer Music ($7) – Peter Moody-trained seven-year-old mare is a Group 1 winner when taking out this year’s Stradbroke Handicap, will be second-up for the season looking to bounce back from an eighth in the Gilgai Stakes on October 6, has improvement in her but will need it with the 58.5kg topweight and wide barrier 10 (of 11) draw which got the better of her first-up
  • #9 Altar ($9) – Peter Snowden’s four-year-old Commands mare hasn’t won a race in over 18 months, her most recent success being in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes back in March of 2011 at just her second start, races first-up here off a six month break looking to prove she wasn’t a one-hit juvenile wonder

Meanwhile there are a number of other hopefuls at slightly longer odds that could prove excellent value in Caulfield Cup Day Race 6 including Moody’s Group 1 performing Exceed And Excel mare Curtana ($10), another Exceed And Excel offspring in Darwin galloper Canali ($11) and consistent Rubiton gelding Freereturn ($15).
